We make golf course artwork by hand. One piece at a time, for the person it belongs to.
How it started
My little brother Eric made a hole in one. It happened in a scramble tournament the two of us played together, and it is the kind of shot you end up telling people about for the rest of your life.
Eric passed away in 2023.
Since then I have wanted to build something to remember that shot by. Not a photograph or a plaque — the hole itself, made properly, at a size worth hanging on a wall. That is where Cheney Works started.
I have not built Eric’s piece yet. When I do, it will be the one I take the most time over.

Our name goes on the back of every piece, and that has always meant something in our family. If a Cheney made it, every detail has been thought about, and the job is not finished until it is right.
We would rather take longer than hand somebody something we are not proud of.
The work
Every piece is built to order in hardwood and epoxy, cut and finished by hand for the course it represents and the wall it is going on. Nothing is mass-produced, and nothing sits in stock waiting for a buyer.
Every piece is numbered, signed, and recorded, so there is a permanent record of what was made, for whom, and when.
We are at the beginning. The aim is to make pieces worth keeping for a hundred years, and to still be making them in thirty.
